Begin with a Working Device Link
For Ledger Live Mac M2 setup, a reliable USB link is a useful early milestone. Ledger Wallet, the current application name, must communicate with your hardware device before it can carry out device-specific tasks. This is separate from being able to open a portfolio interface or load market information.
Check whether the M2 machine is a MacBook or another Mac model. Laptop accessory approval can behave differently from desktop hardware, and port arrangements vary. Avoid treating every issue as a special problem with the M2 processor.
Confirm What macOS Is Allowed to Connect
With the laptop awake and unlocked, attach your own Ledger and watch for an accessory prompt. Apple’s USB connection permission article describes this protection on Apple silicon laptops. If data access was declined, receiving power does not mean that the connection was accepted.
Use a cable known to transfer data and remove unnecessary intermediate connections for the first attempt. A direct test can distinguish the Mac and device from an unreliable hub. Reintroduce your usual desk accessories only after the simple arrangement works.
Install for the System You Actually Run
Look up the M2 computer’s current macOS version and review the requirements alongside the official macOS application download. Choose the offered desktop package appropriate for your system. Product naming and package choices may differ from screenshots in an early M2 review.
After following the installer, open the application stored in Applications. If you had an older release, confirm its version through the running interface. A new file in Downloads does not replace the app unless you complete installation.
Keep the Hardware Setup Decision Explicit
An existing initialized Ledger should continue with its existing keys. Select that onboarding route, unlock the device and follow its verification requests. Initializing a new wallet simply because this is a new M2 computer would produce a different wallet identity.
For newly purchased hardware, complete the documented setup and create its recovery backup privately. The hardware should supply the recovery words during new-wallet creation; a file downloaded to the Mac should not request that you type those words back into software.
Add Accounts and Test the Correct Function
Use the necessary device apps, then discover supported accounts. Work from the network that holds your assets, especially if a token has versions on several chains. A successful connection to My Ledger does not automatically populate every account in the application.
Verify a receive address using the Ledger display. If existing balances look wrong, check account selection and refresh status before preparing any transfer. The first useful result is agreement about the account, rather than a payment sent while the setup remains uncertain.
M2 Questions
Does a fast chip make synchronization immediate?
Network services and account history also affect the time required. If the scan is making progress, avoid interrupting it just because the computer is new.
Can I authorize transactions with the Mac password?
No. Your Mac login and an optional app lock concern local access. Review and approve signing requests on the matching physical wallet.
Should I change several security settings when detection fails?
Record the failed stage first. Cable data support, accessory approval and competing applications are distinct checks; changing them together hides which condition mattered.
