Identify the Update That Preceded the Failure
When Ledger Live Mac won’t open after update, record what changed between the last working session and the failed launch. Ledger Wallet is the current product name. A Mac system upgrade, desktop application replacement and Ledger OS installation are different transitions, even if each happened during the same maintenance session.
Note the previous version if known, the present macOS release and the first failing screen. Save the actual error. This gives you a clearer starting point than describing every post-update symptom as a broken wallet.
Confirm the New Program Is the One Being Started
Locate the application through Finder and open the installed copy directly. A Dock shortcut can still point to a prior download or an installation image. Check the path before repeating an updater or concluding that the new version immediately failed.
If installation did not finish, obtain the current Mac package through the Ledger release download route and complete its normal replacement process. Keep program files distinct from local account information; deleting the profile is not required just to copy a new application.
Distinguish a New Warning from a Crash
A first-open prompt can appear after a replacement, while a security rejection conveys another problem. Read Apple’s launch security guidance and preserve the category. If the package is reported harmful or altered, investigate its source rather than using an old approval command.
If the process exits without a security warning, record the crash information and verify current requirements. A restart is a useful single comparison. Repeated restarts with the same result do not explain a package incompatibility or local-profile issue.
Treat Hardware Update States Separately
If the Ledger displays an update or bootloader state, consult the instructions for that model. A desktop startup repair should not interrupt a progressing device installation. The current hardware state matters more than whether a general Mac tutorial recommends unplugging accessories.
If no update is active, testing the application without hardware attached can reveal whether the failure begins before USB communication. When the interface opens, reconnect using the normal desktop data cable and follow the operation’s prompts.
Rebuild Local Data Only for a Documented Reason
A normal reinstall may preserve local settings, so it may leave a damaged profile unchanged. If official troubleshooting eventually calls for a reset, first confirm access to the matching initialized device and preserve useful public account records privately.
Do not generate a new recovery phrase or erase working hardware to repair a computer process. After a local reset, existing-device onboarding and account discovery can restore the supported account view without entering recovery words on the Mac.
Post-Update Questions
Why did both the name and icon change?
Branding can change between releases. Verify the publisher, package and running version instead of assuming visual changes alone indicate a failed or malicious update.
Could a service outage stop the app from launching?
Remote failures can affect initialization or later content, but they do not explain every crash. Separate a process exit from a responsive interface waiting for data.
Is rollback always the fastest solution?
An older release can introduce compatibility and profile-format issues. Establish the failed transition and use a version-specific official remedy rather than selecting an arbitrary historical download.
