Check What a Web Page Is Offering
Ledger Live web access is a broad search phrase, not proof that a page is an official wallet portal. Ledger’s companion application is now named Ledger Wallet. Before connecting anything, identify whether you opened a download page, an explorer, a provider site, or a decentralized application requesting a hardware-wallet connection.
Each serves a different purpose. A page that distributes installers does not need your wallet backup. An explorer can display public history without signing authority. A dApp can request signatures whose consequences deserve review beyond merely recognizing the Ledger logo.
Establish the Official Starting Point
Navigate from Ledger’s website to its application download options when you need the standard desktop or phone app. Verify the exact host name, including whether a familiar word is merely part of an unrelated domain. Search rankings and copied branding are not identity checks.
For a separate service, verify its URL through that service’s official documentation. Avoid links sent by an unsolicited person offering to restore access. A supposed support page that introduces a wallet-validation payment or requests all recovery words should stop the session immediately.
Decide Whether the Task Requires a Connection
If you only need to check a known transfer, use its blockchain hash on an appropriate explorer. Confirm the actual chain, result, recipient, and asset. No wallet signature is needed to observe a public transaction, although searching an address can expose financial activity to the service you use.
If you intend to interact with a supported application, select its documented Ledger or hardware-wallet method. Ledger describes an embedded connection experience in its Wallet Provider overview. That integration is a particular browser workflow rather than a promise that every desktop function exists on any page using the brand.
Examine the Connection Request
Account and Network
Confirm that the selected address belongs to the wallet configuration you intend to use. Choose the network required by the task. Similar-looking addresses on multiple chains do not merge their balances or transaction histories.
Browser Hardware Permission
Follow the supported browser and transport instructions for the integration. Permission to communicate with a device is not the same as permission to spend from an account. If the browser cannot support the required interface, use the documented alternative instead of installing an unknown extension.
Signing Prompt
Read the hardware screen for the actual requested action. A connection, message signature, token allowance, and transfer can have different effects. Do not approve an unfamiliar action simply because the webpage labels its button Continue or Verify.
Finish with a Clear Record
For a submitted transaction, retain the hash and any provider reference privately. Inspect the network result before repeating an uncertain operation. Disconnect when done, while remembering that existing on-chain permissions may remain until separately revoked through a supported process.
Ledger’s security notices explain how fake applications imitate legitimate access flows. Hardware storage reduces some secret-exposure risks, but it does not make every signature requested by a website appropriate.
Questions About Website Access
Can a web page display my balance without my device?
Public blockchain data can be viewed without the signing device. That ability does not establish ownership or grant the authority to move the balance.
Should web access start with phrase restoration?
No. Ordinary supported hardware connections use the initialized device. Do not enter a recovery backup into the browser to activate a session.
Why can the browser workflow differ from the desktop app?
They can use different integrations, hardware APIs, and supported networks. Check the exact service’s requirements instead of assuming one interface reproduces all features of another.
