Trace the Connection Before Editing Firewall Rules
Ledger Live Windows firewall settings should be reviewed when there is evidence that a rule blocks the application, not merely because a balance refresh is slow. The software now appears as Ledger Wallet. This independent walkthrough helps you assemble that evidence and decide whether a local policy, network filter, or remote service needs attention.
Leave the firewall enabled throughout diagnosis. Publishing inbound ports or forwarding router traffic to the PC is not a routine requirement for using the desktop companion application.
Define One Repeatable Failing Action
Choose a single action, such as refreshing a particular account, and record its exact message and time. Check whether the failure also affects My Ledger or only one asset. A small, repeatable test is more informative than clicking several services and collecting unrelated errors.
Check Ledger’s service dashboard for the relevant component. If a remote explorer is experiencing an incident, wait for its recovery before interpreting local changes. A successful web-browser session alone does not rule out a problem with a specific service endpoint.
Compare Environments Without Broad Exceptions
On an authorized personal computer, compare the same app action using your normal connection and a trusted alternative connection. Keep the application and security settings unchanged. If only one network fails, investigate its proxy, filtering, or captive-portal requirements.
If the same failure occurs everywhere, check Windows time, application compatibility, and the error text before blaming the router. If the message concerns an issuer certificate, use Ledger’s certificate-error guidance to investigate inspection and trust configuration rather than opening ports.
Look for a Matching Block
In Windows firewall management, identify the active network profile and any existing rules for the installed executable. A rule pointing to a former installation path may be irrelevant after an update. Logs, where enabled, should be checked against the time of your controlled test.
For a managed computer, provide the administrator with the action, timestamp, and error. Organization policies can override local settings, so repeatedly creating personal allow rules may not change the result. Do not work around a policy that forbids the software or external wallet devices.
Make Only the Documented Correction
If a matching rule is confirmed as the cause, use the current supported instructions for that verified application. Obtain the executable through Ledger’s publisher download page. A firewall exception does not establish the legitimacy of a file acquired elsewhere.
Keep a record of the original setting and the specific change. Do not allow every application, disable all profiles, or add broad inbound access as a shortcut. Retest the original action once so you can tell whether the change addressed the identified failure.
Separate Network Access From Wallet Recovery
A network issue affects the interface’s communication, not the validity of your offline backup. It should never require entering recovery words into a PC, resetting the Ledger, or sending a verification payment. If a supposed support representative proposes those actions, return to the official support route.
Firewall Questions
Why Can Another Computer Work on the Same Wi-Fi?
The PCs can have different local policies, proxy configuration, certificate stores, and application versions. Compare those differences using the specific failure evidence rather than copying every rule from one machine.
Should I Change DNS Immediately?
Only pursue DNS when the error and tests indicate name-resolution trouble. A remote outage or a certificate failure calls for a different investigation.
