Start with the Window, Not the Password
Ledger Live login issues are easier to solve once you identify who is asking you to sign in. Ledger’s main wallet app is now called Ledger Wallet. It does not use one universal online username and password to control your hardware-wallet accounts, although local privacy locks and separate service accounts can still exist.
Read the product name, address bar if present, and exact prompt. Is the request on the physical Ledger, in the installed app, or inside a provider page? Do not send credentials to support to help identify the screen. A description without the secret is enough to start.
A Provider Page Asks for Email
If you intentionally opened an exchange, payment provider, or other integrated service, its account belongs to that provider. Use the provider’s verified recovery route for an account password or identity-check problem. Reinstalling the Ledger app will not reset that remote account’s credentials.
An optional Ledger Recover account also has its own authentication and eligibility requirements. Review the official Recover information when that is the named service. Recover login and the application feature used to view a portfolio should not be treated as interchangeable access methods.
The Computer App Shows a Lock Screen
An optional app lock restricts access to information stored in that installation. It does not become a blockchain spending password. Verify keyboard input and whether you are using the intended operating system profile before attempting the documented lost-password flow.
Read any explanation about removing local data. You may need to reconstruct account entries using the initialized Ledger device afterward. Account names and preferences can be local, so a password recovery that starts the application fresh may not preserve all of your organization.
The Physical Ledger Requests a PIN
This is a hardware unlock, entered with the device’s controls. The computer password and an additional wallet passphrase are different credentials. Repeated PIN guesses are especially unhelpful because incorrect attempts can cause the device to reset under its security rules.
If you cannot identify the PIN, consult the instructions for your exact model through Ledger Support. Preserve a still-working device and existing backups while deciding what recovery procedure applies. An email password reset cannot remotely reconstruct an erased wallet’s keys.
A Website Requests Recovery Words
Leave the page without submitting them. There is no ordinary portfolio login that requires importing the hardware wallet’s full recovery phrase into a browser. Ledger’s scam examples show how account validation language is used to disguise secret-collection forms.
If words were already disclosed, changing the app lock is insufficient: another person can use the phrase independently of that installation. Seek official incident instructions using a trusted device and do not continue a conversation with someone who requested the backup.
Login Questions Worth Separating
Why does a fresh installation show onboarding instead of login?
Local accounts may not yet have been added. Connect an existing initialized Ledger through the documented path and discover the appropriate supported accounts; do not create a new hardware wallet just to fill an empty portfolio.
Can two computers use different app-lock passwords?
Local installations can hold different settings and privacy credentials. A password chosen for one computer should not be assumed to govern every copy of the app or a provider account.
Is an address enough to regain signing access?
It identifies a public account, not the private authority required to spend. Distinguish observation from signing and use an existing device or previously prepared recovery method for the latter.
