Plan the Installation Around Your MacBook Pro
A Ledger Live MacBook Pro install is easier to maintain when you know which application copy you will use and how the hardware connects. The official companion app now carries the Ledger Wallet name. Older product names in search results should not send you looking for a special unofficial Pro edition.
A MacBook Pro purchased years ago and a recent Apple silicon model may have very different software support. Record the chip and current macOS release before downloading. Also check whether the computer is personally managed or subject to an employer’s application policies.
Keep the Software Location Unambiguous
Navigate to the publisher’s desktop downloads and select the macOS offering. Read the associated requirements. Open the completed installer and carry out its copy instructions before starting the app; installation is more than leaving a disk image in Downloads.
Launch the program from Applications, then create your preferred shortcut from that copy. Eject the installation image once finished. If a later update seems ineffective, this known location will help distinguish an updater problem from a shortcut that opens another executable.
Understand the First Security Decision
macOS can ask you to confirm opening downloaded software. It can also report that software is damaged or that a developer cannot be verified. Those alerts convey different information. Consult Apple’s explanation of launch security messages before treating them as a routine installation obstacle.
If the warning suggests tampering or malicious content, do not approve it merely to reach the home screen. Obtain a verified current package and ask the publisher about an unresolved warning. A successful security override would not authenticate the file.
Give the Ledger a Clear USB Path
Use a data-capable cable and the appropriate connector arrangement for your Pro. Begin without optional hubs if practical. Close other wallet clients that may hold the hardware connection, then unlock the Ledger and follow the operation requested on its screen.
Desktop Bluetooth is not a replacement for this USB link. If macOS asks to admit the newly connected accessory, review that request separately from any application-launch alert. One permission concerns hardware communication and the other concerns running software.
Bring the Correct Accounts into View
Choose the onboarding branch for your device’s actual state. A Ledger you already use should not be erased because the Mac installation is new. After the device check, obtain the necessary coin apps and add each supported blockchain account.
Review account identity before restoring custom names. If you used several hardware configurations or an additional passphrase, the relevant one must match the accounts being added. The Mac application cannot turn an unrelated device into the signer for an old address.
Questions Before First Use
Is a larger MacBook Pro needed for the wallet?
Evaluate the current published requirements, rather than screen size or marketing name. Hardware generation and operating system support are more relevant than choosing a Pro solely for wallet installation.
Should I photograph recovery words for convenience?
Keep the recovery backup offline and outside computer installation records. The interface does not require a photograph or typed phrase to discover accounts through an initialized Ledger.
What is a useful first check?
Verify a receive address on the physical device and allow the chosen account to refresh. Check the asset and network carefully before using any address with a sending service.
