Treat an Application Reset as a Defined Task
Ledger Live Reset application data means removing the local state used by the wallet interface. The current interface is named Ledger Wallet. Before choosing it, identify the problem it is supposed to solve and the information you expect to reconstruct afterward.
A reset of the computer or phone app is distinct from erasing a Ledger hardware device. They should not be combined automatically. The physical device can remain initialized while a new local account list is discovered from its existing wallet configuration.
Understand the Information Involved
The blockchain provides transaction records and balances for supported accounts. The hardware provides signing authority and public information derived from the wallet keys. Local app state can include selected accounts, labels, preferences, and records of interactions with integrated services.
Some of that local state can be recreated; some may need manual rebuilding or may not be reproduced in the same form. A reset should not be described as retaining every item of user data simply because it does not itself spend cryptocurrency.
Check Whether a Narrower Action Answers the Problem
For an outdated balance, first investigate the network and the documented cache refresh. For a single account, compare its chain and discovery details. For damaged program files, an official reinstall may be the appropriate operation without deleting the local profile.
A full reset can be relevant when the documented lost-password process rebuilds access or official support identifies a profile problem. Establish that reason before accepting the destructive local-data confirmation. An active server outage is not repaired by resetting your preferences.
Prepare a Reconstruction List
Privately record the assets, networks, account types, and labels that matter. Confirm access to the initialized device or devices involved. If separate accounts were created under an additional passphrase, include that fact in your private plan without writing the secret itself into a support document.
Preserve required accounting exports where available, and treat addresses and extended public keys as sensitive financial records. Do not photograph recovery words for convenience. A support investigation needs system details and symptoms, not a copy of the wallet backup.
Use the Documented Reset Route
Use the control provided by your edition, or follow the exact platform-specific procedure supplied through Ledger’s official help. If locked out, use the app’s forgotten-password flow where available. Read which local information will be removed.
If instructions mention a folder, confirm the operating system and the precise app location. Do not replace a targeted procedure with deleting a whole system configuration directory. An unrelated cleanup utility cannot decide which account records you want to preserve.
Recreate the Intended Account View
Reconnect Initialized Hardware
Choose existing-device onboarding after the local reset. Unlock the device on its own display and complete the requested checks. Creating new recovery words is not part of reconnecting an existing wallet.
Add and Verify Accounts
Use the relevant asset and network choices, then inspect public history and addresses before naming each entry. Ledger’s device-app and account guide explains why installing a coin application alone does not populate the portfolio.
Restore Your Preferences
Review currency display, privacy lock, account ordering, and other available settings. Allow the data refresh to finish, then compare coin quantities rather than judging solely by the initial portfolio total.
Local-Reset Questions
Will this change a transaction already broadcast?
No. Local profile maintenance does not rewrite network history or force a service provider to cancel an order. Investigate those operations using their identifiers.
What if I cannot locate the old signing device?
Assess your recovery plan before deleting useful local account information. A new app profile cannot generate the missing private keys from public history.
Is a phrase entry form expected afterward?
An initialized device can be used for account discovery without typing its phrase on the computer. Actual device restoration is a separate hardware procedure, not an application-reset form.
