Separate the Two Paths Used by Ledger Live
Ledger Live connection issues often concern either the path to the signing device or the path to online services. The companion app’s current name is Ledger Wallet. Test those paths separately: a device can be detected while a blockchain query fails, and account history can load while the hardware remains unavailable.
Begin with a simple observation. Can you open a previously added account? Can My Ledger identify the attached device? Does only a provider panel fail? Record the answers without submitting a test payment, since a read-only comparison can establish a great deal without moving funds.
If the Hardware Path Fails
Check the device display for a lock screen or a pending instruction. Enter its PIN locally and open the requested coin app when the current workflow asks for it. A device receiving power is not conclusive evidence of a working data connection.
For desktop use, compare a known USB data cable and another suitable port. Remove an optional hub for the test if practical. Close other hardware-wallet programs and browser connections that may already have claimed the device. Changing one component at a time makes the result meaningful.
On mobile, confirm the transport supported by your model. A Nano S Plus uses USB on compatible platforms and has no Bluetooth pairing to repair. Bluetooth-capable models use supported mobile flows, while the desktop Ledger app connects by USB. Instructions for a browser integration may differ again.
If the Online Path Fails
Check the Scope
Refresh another supported account already in the app. If one blockchain alone is affected, inspect its component on Ledger’s status dashboard. A device-management incident and an explorer incident can interrupt different tasks, even though both appear as connection problems.
Compare a Trusted Network
Try a personal hotspot or another trusted internet connection. Finish any legitimate Wi-Fi portal first and verify the system’s date and time. If the second network works, use that evidence to investigate filtering or proxy settings on the original one.
Keep Security Decisions Specific
Review a logged block rather than switching off the firewall or antivirus entirely. On managed systems, give the administrator the exact application and destination involved. Do not install a certificate or remote-access tool supplied by an unsolicited support contact.
Consider the Provider as a Separate Endpoint
If only a swap, purchase, or earning service fails, note its provider name and the stage reached. A quote-loading error is different from a funded order awaiting completion. Keep identifiers and inspect any blockchain transaction before resubmitting the operation.
Use the supported software release from Ledger’s official download channel. Device OS and coin-app maintenance can also matter, but follow their model-specific update sequence. Disconnecting the wallet during active firmware installation is not an ordinary connection test.
Connection Diagnosis Questions
Why does the same account load without the device?
The app can retain public information for viewing. The ability to retrieve a balance does not prove the signing hardware is available or configured for that account.
Is a successful cable test enough?
It resolves only one part of the path. The requested coin app, matching device configuration, and online service may still need separate checks.
How should I summarize the failure for support?
State which path failed, your platform and model, the exact message, and which controlled comparisons changed the result. Keep secrets out of logs and redact private financial details before sharing diagnostics.
