Know the Result You Want From Flex Setup
A completed Ledger Live Flex setup should leave you with a configured hardware wallet, a private backup, and one verified account workflow. The companion interface is now called Ledger Wallet, formerly Ledger Live. Begin with a specific goal such as receiving a supported asset from an exchange. This keeps account and network choices connected to the action you actually intend to take.
Prepare a Supported Host Without Sharing Secrets
Find the app through Ledger’s official onboarding route and check the requirements for your phone or computer. Desktop communication uses a USB data cable. Supported mobile use can pair over Bluetooth through the app. Choose one route for initial setup and keep both screens available; avoid changing hosts midway merely because another connection method exists.
If using Bluetooth, identify your Flex and compare the displayed codes before approving pairing. If using USB, distinguish a powered screen from a confirmed data connection. A charge-only cable can prevent communication even though the hardware appears ready. Complete the genuine-device check through the official flow rather than accepting a seller’s statement as equivalent evidence.
Create the PIN on Flex
Follow Ledger’s touchscreen guide to name the device and select its hardware PIN. Enter the code on Flex itself. Think of it as local device access, separate from passwords used by a computer, a store account, or a third-party service. Nobody providing setup assistance should choose that code or request it afterward.
If the hardware is already configured for your accounts, do not initialize it again because the host app is new. Choose the existing-device flow. If a supposedly new Flex arrives with an established PIN or supplied recovery words, stop and investigate through official support before putting assets at risk.
Finish New-Wallet Backup With Care
For a new wallet, Flex generates and displays the recovery phrase on its secure screen. Record the numbered words offline and complete the on-device confirmation. Arrange a private setting where a camera, screen-sharing session, or nearby person cannot capture them. Do not type the backup into the host as proof that you wrote it correctly.
If restoring an existing wallet is your deliberate goal, use the hardware restoration instructions and enter the words there. A Bluetooth repair or app reinstall is a different task and should not lead you into restoration automatically. Keep the backup available for its intended recovery purpose without exposing it during ordinary software troubleshooting.
Set Up the Intended Receive Route
After necessary device maintenance, install the relevant blockchain app and add the supported account. Select the exact network your exchange or sending wallet will use. A token ticker alone is insufficient because similar assets may exist on several chains. Compare the receive address on Flex with the address displayed by the app before submitting a withdrawal.
Flex Setup Questions
Should I send all funds as my first setup test?
Consider a smaller transfer when practical, while accounting for network fees and withdrawal limits. Verify the route first; a test payment does not replace reviewing the address or correct chain.
What can I do if the app shows no accounts?
Determine whether you connected an existing wallet and added the intended network account. An empty local list does not mean the hardware needs another phrase generated. Keep the initialized device intact while checking account selection.
