Move the Interface, Keep the Wallet Identity
Ledger Live Mac M1 setup often accompanies a move from an older laptop. The companion application is now Ledger Wallet. Your practical task is to establish a supported interface on the M1 computer while keeping the existing hardware wallet configuration and identifying the accounts you want displayed.
Before migrating, privately note the assets, networks and account types you use. If an additional passphrase controls some accounts, distinguish that configuration from your normal device PIN. A new computer cannot infer those choices from a familiar account label.
Learn What the Chip Description Does and Does Not Tell You
An M1 Mac belongs to Apple’s silicon family. That matters when selecting software, but it does not establish the current operating system or the architecture of a particular application build. Inspect both the system details and the current publisher requirements.
Apple’s guidance on Intel applications and Apple silicon explains native, universal and translated execution. Use that information if a verified package triggers a translation prompt. Do not assume that every M1 setup requires manually installing Rosetta first.
Obtain the Supported Desktop Edition
Choose macOS from the Ledger distribution page and follow its current package selection. An unofficial file advertised as an M1 fix adds another trust question. Install the program into Applications and verify that you open that copy after installation.
Keep any first-launch warning in context. An ordinary confirmation for downloaded software differs from a warning about an invalid or harmful package. Investigate a serious alert through official guidance before proceeding with hardware operations.
Establish Communication Before Importing Organization
For desktop, attach the Ledger by a USB cable that supports data. With an M1 MacBook, unlock the laptop and approve the accessory when prompted. A cable that powers the wallet does not prove the computer has permission or a working path to exchange data.
Begin with one wallet client and a direct connection when possible. If you migrated browser extensions too, close sessions that might already be using the device. Establishing one working link makes later troubleshooting much more informative.
Rediscover Accounts in a Controlled Order
Use the existing-device setup branch and complete its checks. Add one known account first, choosing its exact network. Let the scan finish and compare its public transaction history with trusted records. Then add other accounts and recreate labels as needed.
No migration screen should collect recovery words on the computer. If genuine hardware restoration becomes necessary, that is a separate operation on the device. Changing from Intel to M1 does not itself call for a factory reset.
Questions During an M1 Migration
Should I copy my entire old application folder?
Install a current supported application deliberately. Local data migration is a separate choice; compare account identity and preserve useful records before deleting an older installation.
Why is one account absent while another appears?
Check its blockchain, account format and signing configuration. A different network or additional passphrase can explain the discrepancy without implying that the M1 chip changed your keys.
Can I use Bluetooth because my cable needs an adapter?
The dedicated desktop app communicates through USB. Choose a suitable data adapter or cable rather than applying smartphone pairing instructions to the Mac.
