Decide Where You Want to Use Stax
This Ledger Live Stax setup guide starts with the host choice: a computer using USB or a supported phone using Bluetooth. The app’s current name is Ledger Wallet, formerly Ledger Live. Stax makes security decisions on its touchscreen regardless of the host. A bigger application window or a paired phone does not replace reviewing the device display.
A Desktop Start Can Keep the Steps Visible
Use Ledger’s setup entry point to download the desktop app for a supported system. Connect with a USB data cable and select Stax in the guided flow. Keep the computer and hardware screens in view so you can see which one is asking for a routine connection confirmation and which one requires a private on-device action.
For mobile onboarding, install through the official store link and enable the required Bluetooth access. Start pairing in the app, identify your Stax, and compare the pairing codes. Approval should correspond to the setup you initiated. If another unknown request appears, reject it and check the flow before continuing.
Give the Device Its Own Local Credentials
Follow the touchscreen onboarding instructions when naming Stax and choosing a PIN. Avoid including a balance or other private account information in a name broadcast to nearby devices. Set the hardware PIN directly on Stax. A phone’s unlock code and a local app lock protect different things and are not substitutes for the hardware PIN.
Read the state of a device advertised as new. If someone supplied an existing PIN or prewritten phrase, do not proceed as though it were your new wallet. Seek official assistance before creating accounts or funding addresses from that setup.
Select New Wallet or Existing Access Deliberately
For a new wallet, allow Stax to generate the phrase on its own screen. Write its words in order, privately offline, and finish confirmation on the device. Do not store the phrase as a photograph, clipboard entry, or cloud document. The app may explain the steps but should not receive the words themselves.
An already initialized Stax can be connected and its accounts added without repeating that process. If you intentionally restore a previous wallet on Stax, enter the backup on the hardware under the documented restore path. Treat restoration as a specific wallet-access operation rather than a general cure for pairing or an empty application account list.
Move From Setup to One Useful Account
Finish verification and any required, model-specific OS maintenance. Install the needed blockchain app and add its supported account through the companion interface. Start with the asset you intend to use rather than installing many unrelated apps. For a first receive operation, compare the complete address shown by Stax with the host’s displayed address and confirm the network at the sending service.
Stax Setup Questions
Can I switch from desktop to phone afterward?
Yes, where the host and connection are supported. Connect the same configured Stax and add or synchronize appropriate account information; changing interfaces does not itself require a new wallet.
Is personalization a security step?
A custom image or recognizable name can help identify your device, but neither proves a transaction is appropriate. Review the recipient, amount, and requested action on Stax every time you authorize spending.
